A US marketplace for household work

About the Taskrabbit Marketplace

We connect US customers with independent Taskers for household jobs and small handyman work. Not a staffing agency — a booking record you can read before anyone knocks.

Who runs the platform

Taskrabbit is operated by a US company based in San Francisco. We build and maintain the marketplace: the search, the booking flow, the payment record, and the support desk. We don't employ the Taskers.

That distinction matters, because it means the person who shows up at your door is an independent professional running their own small business, and the platform's role is to connect you and hold the booking record.

Everything you see in the booking flow — the rate, the rating, the reviews, the arrival window — comes from that same record. If something goes wrong mid-job, support reads the same page you do instead of asking you to explain it twice.

Read Tasker Standards

Why we built a marketplace

Hiring a handyman the traditional way means calling around, waiting for callbacks, and comparing quotes that arrive days apart. Building a company with W-2 employees would have meant serving a handful of cities well and nowhere else. A marketplace lets independent Taskers list their rates and availability, and lets customers compare them side by side.

That choice shapes what you see on the site: rates in the open instead of behind a callback, ratings from completed bookings, and availability you can read before you commit. It also means coverage depends on who has signed up near you, which we would rather say plainly than paper over.

Traditional call-around Quotes arrive days apart, rates stay private until someone calls back.
Marketplace listing Rates, ratings and availability sit on the profile before you book.
National franchise Standardized appointment, one company, no side-by-side comparison.

How Taskers and customers connect

A customer posts a job with a description, location, and preferred time. Taskers who work in that category and area see it. Two routes lead to a confirmed booking, and both end on the same record.

Route one

Instant match

You post the job and a Tasker who works that category and area accepts it directly. Best when the scope is clear, the price is already listed, and you want the earliest slot that fits.

Route two

Choose your own Tasker

You read the search results and pick a specific Tasker from the profile — rating history, completed jobs, background-check status where it is on file, and the rate they set themselves.

Both routes

The booking is confirmed in the platform and both sides see the same details: time, address, scope, and rate. Nothing is agreed in a side channel and then disputed later.

What the platform handles, and what it doesn't

The line between the marketplace and the person doing the work is worth stating out loud, because it decides who you call when something changes.

The platform
  • Search and profiles, so you can compare rates side by side
  • Ratings and reviews written by customers who completed a booking here
  • The booking flow, with the confirmed time, address and scope on one page
  • The payment record and the support desk that reads it with you
The Tasker
  • The actual work, from start to finish, on the agreed scope
  • Their own tools for most jobs, and their own transport to your address
  • The rate they set, which the platform does not adjust for them
  • Communication if the arrival time or scope has to change

We don't dispatch, we don't supervise the work, and we don't set the rates. If a job needs a permit or a licensed trade, the platform isn't the right tool, and we'd rather say that than book a job nobody qualified can legally do. For home repair services that fall outside a Tasker's scope, start with a licensed contractor instead.

The trust layer

Ratings and reviews come from customers who completed bookings through the platform. Taskers can also complete a background check, and that status is visible on their profile.

We don't claim that every Tasker is vetted to the same degree, because they aren't. What we do is make the trust signals visible so you can decide what matters for your job. A rating built from fifty jobs tells you something. A background check tells you something else.

What a rating tells you

A score built over many completed jobs reflects consistency: arriving when promised, finishing the scope, handling small surprises without turning them into a new quote. Read the recent reviews rather than only the headline number — a long history with a few recent misses is a different risk from a short history with a clean record.

What a background check tells you

It is a check completed through a third party and shown on the profile when it is on file. It speaks to identity and criminal history screening, not to trade skill, insurance, or the quality of the last ten jobs. Both signals are useful; neither replaces the other.

What we do about complaints

We remove Taskers who repeatedly cancel, no-show, or generate credible complaints, because a marketplace only works if both sides can trust the record. If a job went wrong, report it through the booking rather than in a message — that keeps the record with the job.

Metro and suburbs Strongest coverage

Where the marketplace operates today

Coverage is strongest in US metro areas where a healthy base of independent Taskers has signed up. Suburban areas around those cities are usually covered.

Rural zip codes are thinner, and we're honest about that during booking: if no Taskers are available in your area, the platform tells you before you enter payment details. You can also check a category page first to see which kinds of work are most often booked near you.

What we ask of customers and Taskers

A marketplace runs on the quality of the record, and the record is only as good as what both sides put into it. These are the habits that keep bookings smooth.

From customers

Describe the job accurately. Include photos when you can. Mention parking, stairs, and anything unusual about the space. The more a Tasker knows upfront, the more accurate the rate and the smoother the visit.

Vague descriptions lead to back-and-forth, revised quotes, and occasionally a Tasker who shows up without the right tools. A few minutes of detail saves an hour of friction — and it is the single biggest thing you control in the outcome.

From Taskers

Show up when you said you would. Communicate if something changes. Do the work you accepted. Taskers who do those three things build ratings that keep them booked.

They're also the ones who benefit most from the platform, because repeat customers and consistent reviews compound into a calendar that fills itself. Cancelling quietly costs a Tasker more than it costs the customer.

Market context

How we compare to other options in the market

The US home-services space has plenty of options. Some customers start on a search engine and land on a lead-generation directory. Others ask neighbors on a local recommendation platform, or collect quotes from a broad service marketplace. National franchises in cleaning and handyman work offer a standardized, appointment-based alternative.

Taskrabbit is a middle path: faster than quote shopping, narrower than a general lead site, and built for jobs that fit an afternoon rather than a renovation. If you want a single company brand with its own uniformed crews, a franchise is a better fit. If you want to compare independent Taskers and book one today, this is the tool.

Lead directory You submit a request and several businesses contact you. Useful for large projects, slower for a two-hour job.
Neighbor recommendation Trusted names, no published rates, and availability that depends entirely on who replies.
National franchise Standardized service and scheduling, at franchise rates, with no side-by-side choice of who does the work.
Taskrabbit Independent Taskers with listed rates, a rating history, and a booking you confirm in the platform.

The categories we focus on

Furniture assembly, mounting, small repairs, moving help, cleaning, and yard work. These are the jobs that fill most of the calendar, and they're also the jobs where a marketplace works well: clear scope, a few hours of work, and a customer who benefits from comparing rates rather than committing to one company. We're not trying to be everything to everyone.

If your job is larger than a single visit — a remodel, an electrical panel, a plumbing replacement — start with a licensed contractor. For everyday home repair services that fit a few hours, a Tasker is usually the faster route.

Support and questions

Support and how to reach us

Booking support, payment questions, and cancellation help run through the contact page and the phone line. We're not an emergency service. For urgent problems like a burst pipe, call a licensed plumber directly. For everything else, the support team works through requests in the order they arrive.
